When Ted
Collier first acquired the plot on which Astrea is built he said there was an
old dilapidated house on it having a cellar beneath it.
At one time a blacksmith had lived there and carried on
his trade in a shed beside the house.
Ted Collier had the house demolished and used the flints
to fill the cellar. Then during the 1920s he had a bungalow erected on the site.
After Mr Collier moved the bungalow was sold and in its turn demolished.
When the present Astrea was built the flint panels incorporated in its
construction were made with flints from the original house.
