Innings Road remained a gated road into the 1920s hence the name of the 1970s close of six houses.

Innings Gate by Colliers Farm, Frieth, c1920 - From Joan Barksfield's collection

Permission for building these houses was given prior to WW II, originally they were to be built in the field behind the School House but there was considerable local opposition to this and finally they were allowed to be built in the corner of Innings Meadow.

The gated road / track through Innings Meadow led to Little Frieth, a group of what were then ten or so small farm workers' cottages and was not called Innings Road until after the close of houses was built.
