Down the Lane is situated on the left hand side of Innings
Road adjoining Collier's farm and was built during the 1930s for Mr Horniman.
During WW2 it was occupied by Ernest Fielder a distant relative of the Colliers
whose brother Charles Fielder had bought
Hillside View from the Barksfields.
[ Roger Druce, now at Mallards, says: The brothers were the
other way round : Ernest at
Hillside View, Charles at this property.
It is interesting that, according to Roger, Ernest was a tea importer in London.
The
Horniman family were noted tea importers so I guess there may be a link here
between the Mr Horniman mentioned above and the Fielders, also tea importers as
noted on the Hillside View page. ]
